    Purpose. To develop a vitrectomy technique in the air medium for progressing retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) after the laser treatment with a local traction retinal detachment formation.

    Material and methods. An early vitrectomy in the air medium was performed in 30 patients (42 eyes) aged 7-11 weeks of life, who had a disease progression 2-3 weeks after the laser treatment for the stage III of retinopathy of prematurity and the aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity.

    Results and discussion. The advantages of vitrectomy in the air medium were an improved visualization and a stabilization of retinal surface that promoted an achievement of the most favorable anatomic results.
