Experimental and morphological research of the intrascleral fixation of the posterior chamber intraocular lenses

The purpose of the research
To study the effect of the intrascleral location of the haptical elements of the intraocular lenses (IOL) on the eyeball tissue in the fixation zone in case of the experiment on rabbits.
Materials and methods
Experimental research were studied on fifteen (30 eyes) rabbits chinchilla weighing 2.0-2.5 kg.
We have worked out the technique of the posterior chamber intraocular lenses fixation with C-form haptic for correction of acapsular aphakia, and it allows to eliminate the defects of the sclera fixation method. In the case of carrying out the surgery with this technique the superficial scleral flaps are formed in advance and after IOL implantation the supporting elements are led out in to the surface of the scleral bed through out the incision of the sclera and choroid of the scleral bed base in the projection of the ciliary sulcus.
Conclusions
The experimental and morphological research have shown that the staying of the IOL supporting element during for a long time period in the sclera stratum does not cause complications and structural changes. Clinical and pathohistological changes were characterized by moderate inflammation in the zone of the surgical procedure.
