Ultrasound biomicroscopy in diagnosis of complications of silicone oil retinal tamponade in patients with aphakia
Purpose
To determine the probable reasons of high intraocular pressure and hypotony following silicone oil tamponade in patients with aphakia.
Methods
The study included patients who underwent pars vitrectomy with silicone oil endotamponade. 8 cases with elevated intraocular pressure and 3 cases with hypotony after silicone oil injection were analysed. All cases were aphakic. All patients were examined with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).
Results
UBM showed synechia of anterior chamber angle in the case of postoperative noncompensated glaucoma. The total silicone block of pupil was detected in cases of noncompensated glaucoma and the incomplete silicone block accurred in eyes with compensated intraocular presser. Ciliary detachment were found in one case of hypotony.
Conclusions
UBM can be used to reveal such probable reasons of eye′s hydrodynamic disorder as ciliary detachment, synechia of anterior chamber angle and pupil′s silicone block.
