Peculiarity of aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity diagnostic and treatment
Purpose is to optimize a management of the children with aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity (AP-ROP).
Materials and methods. 38 infants (76 eyes) with AP-ROP, gestational age was from 25 to 31 weeks, birth weight ranged from 730 to 1490 g. They were divided into two subgroups. 23 infants (46 eyes) from subgroup 1 underwent a laser photocoagulation at the age of 5,7±0,5 weeks. 15 infants (30 eyes) from subgroup 2 underwent the laser photocoagulation at the age of 6,8±0,4 weeks. 25 g vitrectomy was performed if the disease progressing after the laser photocoagulation.
Results. In subgroup 1 AP-ROP regress was archived in 78,2% (36 eyes), in subgroup 2 — in 46,7% cases. AP-ROP regress after the laser treatment happened in 26 eyes of 13 children (10 eyes in subgroup 1 and 16 eyes in subgroup 2).
Conclusion. Optimal time for laser photocoagulation for AP-ROP is not later than 5-6 weeks ageing. If AP-ROP progressing 3-4 weeks after the laser treatment a vitreal surgery is necessarily.
