Choice of tactics for cataract treatment from the point of patients view

Purpose. We conducted scientific, multicentral social research with an aim: to find out actuality of question of preventive conservative treatment from the point of view of patients.

Material and methods. We worked out a special questionnaire by means of which 450 cataract patients were polled. Out of them 135 male and 315 female in aged from 56 to 78 years which were observed during 2-3 years with a frequency of examination 2-3 times per a year.

Results. The conducted research shows that only 9.3% patients with an initial and immature cataract choose a tactics of active surgical treatment. Other (44.4%) patients, for various reasons, choose an active tactics of preventive conservative treatment, and in 46.3% of cases — a passive waiting.

Conclusion. Therefore, if to take into account such choice of our patients, search of new methods for conservative treatment of cataract is the same topical trend of current ophthalmology, as an improvement and development of more safe methods of surgical treatment of cataract.
