Diagnostic possibilities of a 20 MHz ultrasonic gauge application in ophthalmologic researches
Material and methods. Specifying morphometric ultrasonic diagnostics of intraocular structures by gauges of 15 and 20 MHz was consistently carried out in 85 patients (150 eyes) with a various ophthalmologic pathology. Criteria of comparison: degrees of contours distinction, a sharpness of studied ocular structures, a possibility of exact definition of their sizes.
Results and discussion. Diagnostics of configuration and sizes of cilliary zone tumors was performed in 5 eyes. Their exact localization and sizes was defined in all cases by means of a 20 MHz gauge. As for the 15 MHz gauge a tumor presence in its sizes only more than 5mm was revealed only in 2 cases. The estimation of form and sizes of cross section of a lens, of the anterior chamber in 79 eyes with the 20 MHz gauge allowed to investigate the given parameters with the minimum error (75 microns), but with the 15 MHz gauge they were not worked out in detail at all.
The evaluation of a parity of the cross section area of a lens with that of the entire anterior segment of an eye (37 eyes), as well as a determination of native lens diameter (accurate within 75 microns — 19 eyes) were possible only using the 20 MHz gauge.
Conclusion. The comparative analysis of use of ultrasonic gauges with the 15 and 20 MHz frequency to estimate a condition of anterior ocular segment structures has revealed an essential advantage of the 20 MHz gauge.
Keywords: ultrasonic diagnostics, high-frequency ultrasonic scanning, the 20 MHz gauge.
