Dynamics of ophthalmoscopic signs of cytomegalovirus retinitis
Abstract
Dynamics of ophthalmoscopic signs of cytomegalovirus retinitis
Pershin B.S.
Dmitry Rogachev National Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology
Purpose. To systematize ophthalmoscopic data in patients with cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR).
Material and methods. 48 patients (86 eyes) with CMVR, which developed in the period after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Fundus images were photographed weekly from the moment of manifestation until the remission of retinonecrosis was achieved. The analysis was performed using the ANOVA test.
Results. As a result of the analysis, the stages of development of retinonecrosis were identified: 1) white lesions with uneven edges, 2) white/yellow lesions with smooth edges, 3) white/yellow lesions with smooth edges, and pigment epithelium dispersion, 4) healing of lesions. Two healing scenarios have been identified: favorable and unfavorable, which differ in the area of atrophic changes and dispersion of the pigment epithelium.
Conclusion. In those cases when, upon detection of retinonecrosis, foci with even boundaries or with a demarcation line of dispersion of the pigment epithelium are detected, this pathological process has already been developing for some time by the time of diagnosis.
