Purpose. To estimate efficiency of terahertz influence at frequency of emission and absorption molecular spectrum of 129,0 GHz on visual acuity in complex treatment of children with amblyopia.
Material and methods. 24 patients (27 eyes) with refraction amblyopia at the age of 3 years 7 months – 6 years underwent treatment. A mild-degree amblyopia was revealed in 6 patients, moderate – in 15 children, and high in 3 children. All children had regular pleoptic treatment for 2–4 years in children health care centres and in specialized kindergartens: occlusion of a sighting eye, courses of treatment, home trainings. For the first time in complex treatment of refraction amblyopia in children it was applied terahertz radiation of skin in two biologically active points of application VB1, TR23 at a frequency of emission and absorption molecular spectrum of 129,0 GHz at the power of 100 µW in the continuous wave generation mode. Each point of application was exposed to radiation serially per 3 minutes (totally 6 minutes) within 3 days.
Results. UCVA before treatment was 0,14±0,06, BCVA 0,23±0,13. On the 5th day after performed terahertz radiation it was noted statistically reliable (р<0,05) increase of uncorrected visual acuity to 0,33±0,02, and best corrected visual acuity up to 0,57±0,09.
Conclusion. Terahertz radiation of points of application at a frequency of emission and absorption molecular spectrum of 129,0 GHz at the power of 100 µW in the continuous wave generation mode leads to reliable and permanent increase in uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity in children with amblyopia.
Key words: amblyopia, terahertz radiation.
