The question of efficiency improvement of long-term results of single-stage surgical intervention in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and complicated cataract
Abstract
The question of efficiency improvement of long-term results of single-stage surgical intervention in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and complicated cataract
A.E. Babushkin, O.V. Chaika
Ufa Eye Research Institute, Ufa
The article analyzes long-term results of single-stage combined surgical intervention by phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy, including in combination with Glautex eye drainage system placement, in 81 patients (92 eyes) with primary open-angle glaucoma and complicated cataract. The authors have concluded that a single-stage surgery of phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy with application of Glautex eye drainage system as compared to a similar combined intervention without the drainage system is a safe and more efficient intervention reducing the frequency of post-surgery exudative inflammatory reaction from 11.9% to 8.3% and ensuring a stable IOP decrease («absolute effect») within the follow-up period of up to 3 years in 82% of cases versus 69.1% in the control group.
Key words: primary open-angle glaucoma, cataract, surgical treatment, phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy, Glautex eye drainage system placement.
