Aim. To find clinical effectiveness of dacryocystorhinostomy with Mitimycin-C application and process at formed ostium site chemical analysis.
Material and мethods. 45 patients (48 cases) with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obliteration aged 66±13 years were involved in the study. Endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy with Mitimycin-C application at formed ostium site was performed in all cases. Biopsy of nasal mucosa was performed in 15 cases immediately after application of Mitomycin-C, in 30 minutes and at the 1st day after the surgery. Results were estimated in 8 months after procedure.
Results. It was found in a saturation estimation that saturation of Mitimycin-C immediately after its application was 0,626±0,176 mkg/g, in 30 minutes – 0,23±0,06 mkg/g, at the 1st day Mitimycin-C was not found. Positive clinical outcome was noticed in 37 cases (77%).
Conclusion. Mitimycin-C application at formed ostium site after dacryocystorhinostomy is inadvisable. This procedure doesn’t influence clinically significant as a result of the fact that cytostatic concentration of Mitomycin-C is not achieved at ostium site.
Key words: dacryocystorhinostomy, Mitomycin-C, chemical analysis, biopsy, fibrosis.
