Purpose. To evaluate the clinical significance of the age of primiparous and multiparous women with preeclampsia on the risk of the formation of vascular retinal complications in the longterm follow-up after birth.
Material and methods. An extensive sampling was carried out: medical documentation of 120 women, whose pregnancy was complicated by preeclampsia, was studied. The group 1 was represented by 30 women who were in the early reproductive period during pregnancy. All women in this group were primiparas. The group 2 involved 30 women who were in the early reproductive period during pregnancy and were re-paras. The group 3 included 30 women who were in the late reproductive period during pregnancy. All women in this group were also primiparas. The group 4 consisted of 30 re-parous women who were also in the late reproductive period.
Results. According to the results of an ophthalmologic examination, vascular retinal pathology was detected in 25 women of the totality (25 eyes – 21%). A comparative analysis of the frequency of vascular retinal pathology in the groups revealed a statistically significant difference between the groups 1 and 3 (3% and 30%, p <0.05), and also between the groups 2 and 4 (10% and 40%, p <0.05).
Conclusion. The frequency of the formation of vascular retinal pathology in women after pregnancy, complicated by preeclampsia, increases with age.
Key words: vascular retinal pathology, preeclampsia, reproductive period.
