Intrascleral-fixated intraocular lenses foraphakic correction
Уфимский научно-исследовательский институт глазных болезней БГМУ Минздрава России
Центр диагностики и хирургии заднего отдела глаза
Purpose
To study the results of our worked out technique of intraocular lenses intrascleral fixation for correction of acapsular aphakia.
Methods
12 patients (5 children and 7 adult persons) aged between 11 and 75 years old (12 operations) underwent the surgery by the suggested method.
Results
Visual acuity without correction in average corresponded to preoperative best corrected visual acuity in a long follow-up period and made up 0.31+⁄-0.05. Visual acuity was higher with additional correction and in average made up 0.40+⁄-0.05. It is necessary to consider the mean value of refraction deviation, which is equal to – 1.48+⁄-0.38D at calculating IOL optic power by SRK II formula at intrascleral fixation.
Conclusions
Posterior chamber IOL implantation with intrascleral fixation of haptic elements appears to be safe and effective method of aphakia correction in cases with the absence of capsular support or at its vast defects. The technique described provides safe and stable IOL fixation.
