Purpose. To conduct a comparative analysis of microbial spectrum contents of lacrimal sac and pathways on the side of the lesion with conjunctiva microflora of the fellow eye in case of neonatal phlegmon dacryocystitis.
Material and methods. Microbiological investigations of contents of the lacrimal sac and lacrimal pathways on the side of destruction and the conjunctiva microflora of the fellow eye of contralateral side was performed in 70 children with neonatal phlegmon dacryocystitis (70 cases, 70 eyes). The study included children in the first year of life, the mean age was 8.65± 2.58 months. Standard survey methods were applied. Identification of microorganism species was carried out by standard techniques with the study of morphological, tinctorial, cultural, biochemical and antigenic properties.
Results and conclusions. In case of neonatal phlegmon dacryocystitis Staphylococcus epidermidis was revealed most frequently – 46.1% as well as Staphylococcus aureus – 10.3%, rarer –Streptococcus pneumonia (5,1%) and Streptococcus SPP (5.1%). Streptococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus mitis were detected with the same frequency 2.6%. Among other pathogens Haemophilus influenzae, Ochrobactrum anthropi, Streptococcus pseudoporcinus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Acinetobacter Lwoffii var. Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumonia were in 15.4% of crops. There was studied also, the nature of the microflora of the conjunctiva in the fellow eyes of these children. There were the most common: Staphylococcus epidermidis – 41.2%, Streptococcus SPP – 17.6%, Streptococcus pneumonia – 11.8%, Streptococcus G – 2.9%. Other pathogens were in crops of 14.7%. The conjunctiva of the clinically healthy fellow eyes in children with neonatal phlegmon dacryocystitis had single representatives of a group of nosocomial pathogens. The findings confirm the opinion of some researchers about neonatal dacryocystitis as a nosocomial infection. In addition, the presence of nosocomial pathogens on the conjunctiva does not allow to consider the fellow eyes of the contralateral side in neonatal dacryocystitis as healthy and clinically intact and requires changes in the therapeutic approach.
Key words: inflammation of the lacrimal sac, neonatal dacryocystitis; conjunctiva, microorganisms, microbial spectrum.
