Morphological evaluation of antimicrobial photodynamic effects on experimental endophthalmitis

Purpose — to evaluate morphological changes in ocular structures after photodynamic influence on experimental bacterial endophthalmitis.
Materials and methods. 42 eyes of 21 Chinchilla rabbits. Experimental animals were divided into 4 groups. In group 1 a subtotal vitrectomy with vancomicin 30 mcg/ml solution as irrigation solution was performed, in group 2 — vitrectomy with BSS solution as irrigation solution with antibacterial photodynamic therapy (APDT), in group 3 — vitrectomy with vancomicin and APDT. There was no any treatment in control group.
Morphological examination with static handling processing of its resnets based on quantitative evaluation of eyeball inflammatory process morphological features was made. Follow-up — 1, 3 and 14 days.
Results. The best effect of anti-inflammatory therapy was achieved in group 3. Quantitative achieved evaluation of inflammatory process morphological features had decreased from 14.5 points per 1 day to 6.75 points at 14 days.
Conclusion. The experimental examinations testify to availability of APDT for bacterial endophthalmitis treatment.
