Purpose. To study the efficiency of surgical treatment of secondary divergent strabismus of children.
Material and methods. Under the study there were 22 children with primary convergent strabismus, partially accommodation alternating strabismus of both eyes aged from 4,5 to 8 years, which were operated an alternative surgery - the recession of internal direct muscles of both eyes. Hyper effect was noticed in the patients in postoperative period. Secondary divergent strabismus appeared in 6 patients after 2-3 months after operation, in the rest patients – after 5-6 months. Refraction in all cases was hypermetropic.
Results. Deviation angle decreased to the normal one in 18 children with secondary postoperative divergent strabismus after the reposition of internal direct muscles. Visual acuity increased in 16 patients during the postoperative period. The correct approach of surgical treatment provided for the recovery of binocular vision and symmetric eyes position.
Conclusion. After the surgery in terms of secondary divergent strabismus according to the suggested method of reposition of internal direct muscles, a symmetrical eyes position was observed in 81,8% of patients, 18,2% of patients had hyper effect, and after repeated recession of external direct muscles the orthophoria was achieved.
Key words: secondary divergent strabismus, internal direct muscles reposition, orthophoria.
