Neuroprotector therapy in complex treatment of glaucoma optic neuropathy with high myopia
The Rostov State Medical University
Purpose. To determine the effect of the drug citicoline on condition of visual functions and electrophysiological parameters of patients with glaucoma optic neuropathy (GON) and high myopia with normalized intraocular pressure within 18.0-20.0mmHg (by Maklakov).
Material and methods. There were examined and observed in the dynamics 56 GON patients (90 eyes) with high myopia at the age of 18-32 years. In the main group 37 patients (54 eyes) citicoline was administered intravenously 1000 mg per 200 ml of 5% glucose solution during the first 10 days of treatment 1 time daily, then citicoline was administered orally 300 mg 3 times a day within next 20 days. The control group included 19 patients (36 eyes) who received only local hypotensive therapy.
Results. It is revealed that the use of citicoline drug in young adults with GON and myopia with normalized intraocular pressure causes an improvement and/or stabilization of visual functions, and also an improvement and stabilization of electrophysiological parameters, which indirectly can be estimated as an auspicious sign in the prediction of glaucoma optical neuropathy.
