Rationales for application of universal posterior chamber IOL using intra– and extra-capsular fixation
Российский национальный исследовательский медицинский университет им. Н.И. Пирогова Минздрава России
Purpose. To substantiate an application of universal flexible posterior chamber IOL for intra- and extra-capsular fixation in absence of capsular support.
Material and methods. The study was performed in recent educleated pig eyes. Implantation of developed IOL design was carried out using both intra- and extra-capsular fixation to the sclera according to a suggested technique.
Results. The study showed that it is possible to implant IOL through a corneal incision up to 1.8mm, its opening occurs in the anterior chamber smoothly, and the suture fixation to the sclera by the suggested method is a safe and relatively simple procedure.
Conclusion. The suggested IOL design can be implanted intracapsular after cataract phacoemulsification through a corneal incision up to 1.8mm. In absence of capsular support the IOL allows to have a safe and fast suture fixation to the sclera.
Key words: universal IOL, suture IOL fixation, corneal incision, double thread.
