Purpose. To assess the blood flow supply to macular area in patients with glaucoma using optical coherence tomography with angiography function (OCTA).
Material and мethods. 73 eyes of patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and 12 eyes of age-matched healthy individuals were examined using optical coherence tomography with angiography function (OCTA). Flow index and vessel density were evaluated in peri- and parafovea in superficial and deep plexuses.
Results. All indexes of blood flow were reduced in glaucoma patients in comparison with normal eyes: Index superficial parafovea 0.028 ±0.002 and 0.042±0.004 (p=0.008), Index superficial perifovea 0.012±0.01and 0.041±0.02 (p<0.001), Flow superficial parafovea area 1.538±0.115 mm2 and 2.427±0.168 mm2 (р=0.001). Index deep parafovea 0.015±0.002 and 0.030±0.004 (р=0.003), Index deep perifovea 0.013±0.002 and 0.029±0.004 (p<0.001), Flow deep parafovea area 1.99±0.24 mm2 and 0.94±0.12 mm2 (p=0.001).
Conclusion. The reduction of blood flow supply in all retina layers of macular area in glaucoma patients was revealed. This data may explain the involvement of macular area in pathological process in POAG.
Keywords: optical coherence tomography, OCTangiography, primary open-angle glaucoma, ocular blood flow
