    Experience of Travatan medicine application for patients with glaucoma

    Aim. To estimate the influence of intraocular pressure and side effects of Travatan medicine on patients with glaucoma.

    Material and methods. A clinical group was made by 13 patients with non-compensation of ophthalmologic status, who had a developed stage of initial open-angle glaucoma and received β -blockers, particularly, betaxalol, before the prescription of Travatan, for intraocular pressure (IP) reduction during a long period of time. Initial IP was 26-27 mm of mercury column.

    Results. After 6 weeks after the beginning of Travatan treatment IP reduces by 26%, and after 14 weeks – by 30% and amounted on average, 19 mm of mercury column. 4 patients complained on hyperemia of eye conjunctive at the beginning of treatment by Travaton, at the end of treatment – a light hyperemia of scleras was noted only in 1 patient.

    Conclusion. Travatan application allows reducing IP by 30% from the initial index for patients who used selective beta-blockers during a long period of time. Side effects of the medicine disappeared after 2-6 weeks of application and did not influence on IP level. The results received prove a high efficiency of prostaglandin, in particular, Travatan medicine, in treating glaucoma, especially in case of inefficiency of beta-blockers usage.
