Purpose. Analysis of results in surgical treatment of patients with complicated cataract development associated with peripheral uveitis.
Material and methods. The study included 50 patients (50 eyes) with complicated cataract and peripheral uveitis after cataract phacoemulsification. All patients were divided into two groups: 25 patients (25 eyes) of the main group where infrared laser coagulation (with 810nm wavelength) of the far-peripheral retina was performed one month after the cataract surgery, 25 patients (25 eyes) of the control group were treated with a topical anti-inflammatory eye drops bromfenac 009% therapy. There was carried out an evaluation of complaints, visual acuity, bio-microscopy, ophthalmoscopy and the results of cataract phacoemulsification.
Results. Complicated cataract phacoemulsification in patients of both groups was performed without complications, the increase of best corrected visual acuity in patients of both groups was statistically significant after the treatment, and the patients of the main group have the best corrected visual acuity statistically significant better that the patients of the control group at the long-term follow-up period (especially three and six months after cataract phacoemulsification).
Conclusion. The study shows the necessity of a control under the intraocular inflammation in patients with peripheral uveitis after complicated cataract phacoemulsification (even after an uncomplicated surgery). It provides to achieve a statistically more stable better postoperative visual acuity. At the same time, a high anti-inflammatory efficiency of laser coagulation of the retina along the far periphery by an infrared diode laser with wavelength 810nm was noted in comparison to the local instillations therapy with non-steroid anti-inflammatory drops (bromfenac 0,09%).
Key words: complicated cataract, peripheral uveitis, anti-inflammatory therapy, retinal laser coagulation, phacoemulsification.
