Eye lesion in Lyell’s Syndrome after COVID-19 vaccination (a clinical case)
Lyell’s syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis is one of the most severe diseases of a toxic-allergic nature (most often for drug therapy) that pose a real threat to life. The article presents the data of a brief literature review and our personal clinical observation of Lyell’s syndrome with a description of the developed ophthalmopathology (keratoconjunctivitis, iridocyclitis, simblefaron, trichiasis and dry eye syndrome) in a 26-year-old patient. The etiological cause of the disease was most likely the administration of a new vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus infection COVID-19, commonly used in the last two years in connection with the pandemic. The complexity of managing such patients is due to the need to create special care conditions, prescribe timely and qualified therapy. The consequences and complications of this syndrome from various human body systems and organs, including eyes, are very diverse and very serious, and their treatment takes months or even years.
Medical specialists should remember that many medications, as well as vaccines, which are currently used very widely and intensively in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, can cause not only allergic reactions, for example anaphylactic shock, but also the development of toxic epidermal necrolysis.
