Corneal collagen crosslinking manegement in bullouse keratopathy treatment
Purpose
To evaluate the efficiency of crosslinking corneal collagen method in bullouse keratopathy treatment.
Materials and methods. There were 19 patients (19 eyes) in our follow-up, who was underwent crosslinking + riboflavin (370 nm, 3 mW/cm2, exposure time — 30 minutes) in acute period of bullouse keratopathy of varied etiology.
Results
As a result of treatment, all patients had pain relief within 5.8±2.9 days with completion of epithelization. In all patients we observed decrease of corneal oedema by the limit 153.83±2.01 ?m. In patients with mild bullouse keratopathy the postoperative effect was kept during the whole follow-up (mean 18.2±1.2 months); with medium and severe keratopathy we observed recurrence of corneal oedema 6 months after crosslinking.
Conclusion
Crosslinking corneal collagen is an effective treatment method of mild bullouse keratopathy. In patients with medium and severe bullouse keratopathy this method allows to subside pain in acute period, to decrease corneal oedema and, as a consequence, to increase visual acuity direct after the procedure.
Key words
crosslinking, bullouse keratopathy, riboflavin.
