Purpose. To evaluate the results of interventions on the oculomotor muscles performed in accordance with the individual dosing scheme «STRABO» in children with non-accommodative concomitant esotropia.
Material and methods. In the research there were studied immediate and long-term (up to 12 months) results of the operations of medial rectus muscle recession and lateral rectus muscle plication on one eye, which dosing was performed in accordance with the «STRABO» scheme. The analysis included 57 children aged from 3 to 13 years with previously non-operated concomitant non-accommodative esotropia from 9° to 30°. In all patients, strabismus was acquired at the age between 1 to 4 years. After the surgery, orthoptic and diploptic treatments were carried out. The prediction was considered accurate when the deviation from the prognosis did not exceed ±5° in the presence of a fusion on synoptophore, and ±7° in the absence of a fusion.
Results. In 6 children the surgical treatment according to the «STRABO» scheme was performed in two stages. An inaccurate forecast (deviation from the calculated value by 9°) took place only in 1 case. After 12 months, the correct position of the eyes and the stable binocular vision were obtained in all 57 children. Reoperation was not required in any case.
Conclusion. The individual dosing scheme «STRABO» provides accurate prediction of the effect of the operations of medial rectus muscle recession and lateral rectus muscle plication on one eye in children with non-accommodative concomitant esotropia (when performing an intervention by an experienced skilled surgeon using modern technologies).
