    Method of treatment of vitreomacular traction syndrome in combination with cataract (clinical case)

    The article describes a clinical case with the evaluation of anatomical and functional results of cataract phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation (IOL) in combination with pneumatic induction of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) of a 62-year-old patient with early cataract and vitreomacular traction syndrome (VMTS).

    As the result of surgical cataract treatment in combination with PVD pneumatic induction, VMTS resolution was achieved on the 3rd day after the surgery. Maximum corrected visual acuity on the 4th day amounted to 0.7 and persisted at this level within 3 months of observation after the surgery. Single-stage cataract surgery with PVD pneumatic induction allows introducing of 0.3 ml of gas into the vitreous body, maintaining a normal IOP during the operation and postoperative period.
