The comparative analysis of choroidal melanoma treatment with Ru-106 brachytherapy in combination with transpupillary thermotherapy and with brachytherapy alone

Comparative study of treatment results in two matched groups of patients with choroidal melanoma treated with Ru-106 brachytherapy combined with transpupillary thermotherapy within 24-48 hours (BT+TTT) (n=63) vs BT alone (n=70) was fulfilled. The groups had no statistical difference with respect to sex, age, tumor size, localization, radiation dose, follow-up length (range, 3-109 months, mean 42 vs 34.4 months). BT+TTT showed higher 5-years recurrence-free (р<0.034), eye-sparing (р<0.024), recurrence-free survival (р<0.017) and overall efficacy (р<0.015) rates without difference in metastatic (>0.22) and complications rates and visual outcomes.
