Influence of Helminthic Invasion on Chronic Toxic-Allergic Keratitis in Children

    Purpose. To evaluate the effectiveness of antihelminthic therapy in a combined treatment of recurrent toxic-allergic keratitis in children.

    Material and methods. A combined therapy for a boy aged 7 years suffering from chronic recurrent keratitis was performed in struggle with herminthism and toxic-allergic keratitis.

    Results. A long-term ocular surface treatment did not provide any positive result. After administration of systemic antihelminthic therapy without local treatment positive results were found such as reduction of blepharitis, reducing the size of infiltrate, the disappearance of neovascularization. The visual acuity increased from 0.08 to 0.4.

    Conclusions. In cases of chronic children blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcers it is necessary to carry out an investigation to reveal helminthic invasion and dysbacteriosis of intestine, and in case of confirmation a combined antihelminthic therapy and treatment of ocular pathology should be provided.
