The influence of the age factor on the optic disc’s topographical parameters

Purpose

To evaluate changes of the optic nerve disk topographical parameters in people of different age, using data of HRT 3.


Material and methods

We examined 523 patients in age from 35 years to 86 years old, including control group (aged from 20 to 26 years).


Results

There were studied 5 parameters: RA, RV, Cup/disk area ratio, mean RNFL thickness, RNFL cross-sectional area. All results were statistically processed, and specific correlation between age factor and changing of these parameters were found.

Conclusions

Some of these parameters can be considered as markers of aging, but others do not change during age process.
